Jerry had a very average middle-class childhood in suburban Detroit. After getting a degree in Computational Mathematics, he moved to Chicago to chase dreams of being a rock star and/or a high school math teacher. After getting a master's degree in the teaching of mathematics and playing with the legendary Chicago power-pop band The Krinkles, Jerry taught high school mathematics in Chicago Public Schools.
In 2000, he moved to Colorado because (mountains + sunshine) > (concrete + horrible weather). In 2003, probably after seeing "A Beautiful Mind", Jerry entered graduate school to get a Ph.D in pure mathematics. He learned he wasn't that good at math, but got a master's degree in mathematics and began a journey to get a Ph.D. in mathematics education.
For the past 8 years, Jerry has been integral in the rise of the flipped classroom concept. He founded and ran the 30,000+ member Flipped Learning Community.
Jerry is married to the love of his life, Holly, and has two wonderful and fun stepsons. He has 3 cats, which is the greatest upper bound for number of cats. As a serious hobby, he is currently playing with the live electronica band Project Tomo, and post-rock band Transmutation.
